Parkhurst’s Verity Park received a significant upgrade last Saturday as a dedicated team of community volunteers, supported by local businesses, successfully installed new playground equipment. The initiative, spearheaded by the Parkhurst Residents’ Association (PRA), aimed to revitalise the park’s recreational offerings, ensuring a safer and more engaging environment for the suburb’s young families.

The project, which saw residents contribute their time and skills alongside skilled contractors, included the assembly and secure installation of a new jungle gym, swings, and a slide. Funds for the equipment were raised through various community events over the past year, demonstrating the suburb’s strong commitment to collective improvement. Local hardware stores provided discounts on materials, and several small businesses offered refreshments and logistical support to the volunteers throughout the day.

“Seeing everyone come together on Saturday, from young parents to long-time residents, was truly inspiring,” said Eleanor van der Merwe, Chairperson of the Parkhurst Residents’ Association. “This isn't just about new swings; it’s about strengthening the fabric of our community and providing a wonderful, safe space for our children to play and grow. Verity Park is a central hub for Parkhurst, and these upgrades will make a tangible difference to daily life here.”

The newly enhanced playground is now open for public use, with the PRA planning a small celebratory picnic later this month to officially mark its completion. This project highlights Parkhurst’s vibrant community spirit and its ongoing dedication to maintaining and improving its public spaces for all residents.
